MARES DEL MAÑANA

Espronceda Center
Barcelona
2025

Mares del Mañana is a multisensory installation that centers seaweed as material, food, and collaborator in climate mitigation. Blending sound, living algae, speculative text, and edible elements, the piece invites participants into a future shaped by care, fluidity, and radical nourishment.

At the heart of the installation is seaweed, anchoring an immersive dining experience. A soundscape composed of recordings from the Barcelona shoreline accompanies ocean-inspired projections mapped onto the dining tables, echoing the movement of the tides. Each plate was handcrafted using glass and other materials collected from the sea, reinforcing the installation’s connection to marine life and circular design.

First presented at Barcelona’s Espronceda Center, the event was catered by COR Creative Food, who crafted three seaweed-based vegan tapas that offered a direct connection to marine ecology and an alternative food source that is both high in protein and a proven agent in mitigating CO₂ emissions.

The dining experience draws on the city’s lived experience of climate extremes, and reframes adaptation as an act of gathering, eating, and imagining possible futures.
