RABIA is an interactive sound/visual installation and contemporary ritual that transforms the physical expression of anger into a collective, multisensory experience.
In an age where anger and political tension are increasingly commodified in digital spaces, RABIA reclaims anger and embodiment as a powerful catalyst for personal and social transformation.
At the center of the installation is a custom-built punching bag embedded with sensors that captures the force and rhythm of participants’ strikes. These physical gestures are translated in real time into dynamic soundscapes and responsive visuals, generated through a system built in TouchDesigner, Max/MSP, and Ableton Live.
The soundscape is built upon an AI model trained using a variational autoencoder that contains pre-recorded anger expressions from volunteers. As participants strike the bags, each impact navigates to a specific location within the AI's latent space, generating a soundscape that connects participants with their present rage while engaging with a repository of collective emotional memory.
The installation is highly adaptable to various exhibition spaces and can be configured in multiple ways, allowing for flexibility based on spatial constraints and curatorial contexts.
